How to set SMART goals and smash them in 2020!



Happy New Year! Who has a resolution to eat more healthily and shed a few pounds? This is probably one of the most common New Year's resolutions, especially after the holiday season! But how many actually stick to this? To be successful, you need to set yourself realistic and clear goals. Below is a guide to setting SMART goals.


When setting goals, you need to make sure they follow the below:


Specific - You need to be very specific about what you want to achieve, whether that be identifying exactly how much weight you would like to lose (e.g. half a stone) or specify what dress size you would like to be (e.g. reduce from a size 14 to a size 12)


Measurable - You need to be able to easily measure whether you are on track to your goal or not. For example, you will need a set of scales to monitor your weight. If your goal is dropping a dress size, you should keep an item or two of clothing aside to use as a measure of progress.


Attainable - Make sure the goal is within reach. You will be much more motivated if your goal is ambitious, yet realistic. 


Relevant - You need to make sure that your goals are relevant to your current lifestyle e.g. if you know you cannot get to the gym 3 times a week as you have other commitments, then don't make this a requirement for your success.


Timely - Give yourself a challenging, but achievable time-frame to complete your goal.
